Tsunami Displacement and Rehabilitation: Learning for Climate Change Adaptation Strategies

A research project was initiated by USAID to inform its Asia programmes for supporting climate change adaptation, drawing on the learning provided by tsunami displacement and rehabilitation. Vivek Rawal from People in Centre participated as ‘shelter expert’ in the international study team managed by the International Resource Group and led by Jock Baker. Two detailed country-specific reports on India and the Maldives, and one detailed synthesis report for the Asia region, were prepared. The study included policy analysis and outcomes of tsunami rehabilitation in India and the Maldives, with recommendations for USAID country offices on appropriate programming for climate change adaptation. People in Centre was responsible for the preparation of sector-specific reports and contributed to the country overview reports. In all, three sectoral reports (India, Maldives and Asia level) were prepared, with contributions to the overview and synthesis report.
