Brief Description
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake on March 28, 2025 and multiple aftershocks damaged or rendered unusable the homes of more than 50,000 families, who were left staying in highly inadequate makeshift shelters made of plastic sheets or tarpaulins. People in Centre collaborated with UNDP to quickly prepare design options and technical guidelines for wooden-bamboo houses, based on a study of vernacular housing typologies, damage patterns and consultations with affected families. People in Centre supported UNDP to establish an owner-driven framework for supporting families in building these houses using whatever salvage material they had and incorporating hazard-resilient features.
