Technical Support for Reconstruction after 2015 Nepal Earthquake

Provided technical advisory support to UNDP Nepal and the National Reconstruction Authority for owner-driven reconstruction after the 2015 earthquake.

Period2016

The People in Centre team has been intensively involved in providing technical advisory support to UNDP Nepal and the National Reconstruction Authority, Government of Nepal. This support includes policy development for rural housing reconstruction through the Owner Driven Reconstruction approach and instituting various facilitation mechanisms for handholding homeowners through the construction process. People in Centre supported UNDP in demonstrating appropriate technology options (stone masonry in mud mortar with GI wire containment reinforcement), mobile video vans for community awareness and upcycling of debris for reconstruction. With this support, a toll-free number was installed at the NRA to connect government authorities and people. The team is also involved in developing a training delivery framework and plan for the NRA to ensure the availability of skilled artisans and other human resources necessary for facilitating Owner Driven Reconstruction.
