People in Centre, in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), organised an earthquake vulnerability walk on October 29–30, 2012 as part of the Guwahati Emergency Management Exercise (GEMEx) 2012, organised by NDMA, ASDMA and UNICEF. Around 60 participants — municipal officials, college students and NGO workers — walked through the Pan Bazaar area to understand seismic risks and vulnerability. The People in Centre team led discussions at each observation point on the route, exposing participants to the risks arising from poor design and construction practices.
