Our Work
Our work spans recovery and reconstruction after disasters, ecological stewardship, people-centred urban development, and institutional strengthening. Across these areas, we work with communities, governments, universities and development partners to create practical, locally grounded solutions.
Human interventions have brought us close to destruction through resource exploitation and system collapse. As climate change accelerates and natural resources—especially water—face severe scarcity, human development must adapt. We critically evaluate and redesign interventions to promote environmental sustainability, resource revitalization, and social equity. By centering community rights, water governance, and adaptive management, our work bridges technical aspects with inclusive policy frameworks—enabling ecosystems and local communities to thrive together.

View Projects →Natural hazards pose significant risks to our well being. The risks are particularly high for the poor and vulnerable. People's capacities need to be reinforced for disaster risk mitigation and management. This thematic area focuses on mainstreaming disaster risk management into development planning, specific risk mitigation planning, post-disaster reconstruction and recovery. Our key partners include National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Gujarat State Management Authority (GSDMA), Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM), UNDP, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Owner Driven Reconstruction Collaborative (ODRC), Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), Hunnarshala, and UNNATI.

View Projects →Urban space has been usurped by the market. The informal workers and dwellers have no ownership and protection, and the urban space is no more humane. This thematic area focuses on issues of urban planning and development with an idea to work towards making cities for its people. We provide research, planning, monitoring and evaluation services. Our partners include Municipal Corporations, NGOs and local communities.

View Projects →Traditional academic curricula often fall short of equipping young researchers and practitioners with the socio economic field-based realities of development, economics, technology, and governance. We facilitate alternative educational programs, certificate courses, and practical research platforms that take learning beyond college classrooms. By mentoring students and emerging scholars in field-anchored socio-economic research with interdisciplinary analysis, we nurture a new generation of researchers capable of tackling real-world social and developmental challenges. Our partners include International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs).
