In continuation of its engagement with marketplaces, People in Centre helped re-organise the vegetable market at Shardaben Hospital, Saraspur, Ahmedabad. The Saraspur marketplace had existed for more than 40 years without expansion, despite an increase in the number of vendors over the years, and was under added pressure due to road expansion. An alternative plan was developed under the guidance of Rushank Mehta by Ms. Priyanka Kulkarni, a student of CEPT. All the existing vendors were accommodated in an open space nearby, allocated by the AMC for the vendors during their negotiations with SEWA. Appropriate infrastructure was provided for the market. It was proposed that the vendors also take care of the adjoining garden and develop it as a food market. The plan can be viewed here.
