Presentation to Municipal Commissioner and the Standing Committee, AMC

In continuation of its engagement with marketplaces and support to street vendors, People in Centre was invited by SEWA at different times to make presentations to Municipal Commissioner Shree I. P. Gautam, Assistant Commissioner Shree D. Thara and to the Standing Committee of the AMC. The presentation to the Commissioner focused on issues of planning and organising the existing Manek Chowk marketplace, emphasising inclusive planning and restructuring of the area to accommodate informal and formal activities that enrich the market experience and support livelihoods. The presentation to the Standing Committee of the AMC argued that newer markets may be developed on similar lines, where informal activities can coexist alongside formal shops, illustrated by the development of four open marketplaces in existing empty plots of land in the city demarcated by the AMC for the purpose.
