Rushank Mehta, with Dr. Uma Rani, carried out a study of the Sorainagar settlement in Vasna to understand the housing status of the poor. The main objective was to understand the process of development of such settlements and to identify the investments made by the poor and the authorities in them — investments that are often lost when people are evacuated or resettled elsewhere. The study also examined the potential for further investment to upgrade the settlement to an acceptable living standard, with all basic amenities and infrastructure.
