Rushank Mehta was involved in documenting poor settlements in Ahmedabad city and developing housing design solutions as part of the ‘urban poverty reduction strategy in Ahmedabad’ project for MHT. Following the inception report, 5% of the city’s slums and chawls were considered for detailed documentation and analysis, selected on the basis of location, population, house types and land ownership. All physical infrastructure facilities — including drainage, lighting, water and roads — along with the functions of built forms were documented, and a map was prepared for each settlement.
