People in Centre collaborated with Shilp Verma of IWMI, Anand, to undertake research on the impact of decentralised water harvesting structures — particularly check dams and recharge wells — on agricultural output. The study was based on taluka-level data of the Saurashtra region and examined parameters such as: i) the capacity of water harvesting structures built by various departments under different schemes; ii) annual rainfall; iii) land use; iv) crops and cropping patterns; v) surface and groundwater irrigated area; and vi) actual irrigation from medium and minor irrigation systems. The preliminary draft of the study has been completed.
