Revitalising Communities through Mangroves Restoration

Studied villages practising mangrove restoration in south Gujarat to help GIZ build a sustainable, community-owned restoration model.

Period2015

Mangrove restoration in south Gujarat aims to create a comprehensive model spanning physical, vegetative and economic dimensions, designed to ensure the financial and institutional sustainability of communities.

People in Centre studied the villages where the mangrove restoration programme was implemented by SAVE and VIKAS — Nada, Asarsa, Neja and Malpur in Jambusar Taluka (Bharuch District); Kanthiajal in Hansot Taluka (Bharuch District); and Dandi in Olpad Taluka (Surat District) — and used the findings to inform GIZ on project practices and their resulting impact.
