In continuation to its engagement with marketplaces and support to street vendors, People in Centre, at different times was invited to make a presentations to Municipal Commissioner Shree I P Gautam, Asst. Commissioner Shree D. Thara and to Standing Committee of AMC by SEWA. The presentation to the commissioner focused on issues of planning and organising the existing marketplace of Manek Chowk, focusing on inclusive planning and restructuring of the area to accommodate informal and formal activities that enrich the market experience and support livelihoods.The presentation to standing committee of AMC argued that newer markets may be developed on similar lines where informal activities can coexist along with formal shops. This was illustrated with developing four open marketplaces in existing empty plots of land in the city demarcated by AMC for the purpose.
