‘People in Centre’ Consulting collaborated with Tata Institute Social Sciences (TISS) to organise earthquake vulnerability walk on October 29-30, 2012 as part of Guwahati Emergency Management Exercise (GEMEx) 2012. GEMEx 2012 was organised by NDMA, ASDMA and UNICEF. Earthquake Vulnerability Walk was a unique event attended by about 60 participants who walked to through Pan Bazaar area to understand the seismic risks and vulnerability. Participants consisted of municipal officials, college students and NGO workers. PiC team led the discussions at each of the observation points identified on the route for earthquake vulnerability walk. Participants were exposed to risks arising due to poor design and construction practices.
