Deyr Floods 2023 in Somalia: Rapid Post Disaster Needs Assessment

After Deyr floods in October 2023, caused by El Nino effect in Somalia, a rapid PDNA was coordinated by Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MoPWH)..Vivek Rawal of People in Centre involved as Housing Advisor to UNDP led the housing sector assessment of the damage, loss and recovery needs. This multi-agency effort involved UNDP, UN-Habitat, IOM, and the World Bank. It is estimated that the floods resulted in the collapse of 19,913 houses, major damage to 3,597 houses and minor damage to 2,355 houses in 16 districts of Somalia. The total housing recovery needs are estimated at $27.0 million.
